Hi All,

Im trying to match and image with a background using curves. I have the background and my cut out image to begin with. I first create a Curves adjustment layer then a clipping mask. I go in my Curves panel select 5x5 average and select current and below but whenever I use the Black,White,Grey Sample eyedropper it wont select the colors in the background layer. Im not sure what Im doing wrong if any body can help it will be greatly appreciated.

Turn off the clipping mask and select the background then turn back on the clipping mask when you are done.

If you are using the eyedroppers within the Curves panel, the black point eyedropper sets the pixel you click on to black or near black. The white point eyedropper sets the pixel you click on to white or near white. The graypoint eyedropper sets the pixel you click on to a neutral color (a shade of gray).

If you want to sample a color, click on the layer that has the color you want, to make it the active layer. Then use the eyedropper tool in the Tools panel to select the color you want. That color will then become your new Foreground color and you can use it to fill an area (Edit > Fill).

    Hi Barbara

this is my set-up whenever I go to curves adjustment layer and sample the background layer nothing happens. I've looked at several tutorials and they are able to sample the background layer am I missing something here?

is it because I have a clipping mask that it wont sample the background layer? Im just trying to match the image layer with the background.
