I need to place two pictures side by side, merged together, fading seemlessly into each other. How do I do? Will be thankful for any help!

Hi
Make a new document the size you want to output.
Use File > Place Embedded to place each image into that document and move it into position. Each will be on a separate layer - make sure they overlap.
Select the top photo in the layers panel and use menu Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal all
Click on that mask in the layers panel
Select the gradient tool and in the options bar set the gradient to black and white
Pull out a gradient (click and drag) from where the overlap starts to where it ends

Another option would be using a Gradient Layer as the basis of a Clipping Mask; more complicated but with a slightly improved editability.
