Missing PNG Format in “Save As” Menu After Adobe Photoshop CC 2026 Update

Title: Missing PNG Format in “Save As” Menu After Adobe Photoshop CC 2026 Update

Dear Adobe Team,

I am writing to report a critical issue observed after updating to the Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud 2026 version. The PNG format no longer appears in the “Save As” dropdown menu while saving image files.

Our design team frequently exports assets in PNG format for branding, digital, and web deliverables. The absence of this format in the “Save As” list has disrupted the workflow, forcing us to rely on the “Save a Copy” function — which is not optimal for large-scale or iterative design work.

The issue persists even after verifying the following:

  • Resetting Photoshop preferences to default.
  • Enabling “Legacy Save As” under File Handling preferences.
  • Restarting the application.

Despite these checks, the PNG format remains unavailable in the “Save As” list. Other formats such as JPEG, TIFF, and PSD continue to appear as expected.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open Photoshop CC 2026.
  2. Create or open any image file.
  3. Go to File → Save As.
  4. Observe that PNG format is missing from the file type dropdown.

Expected Result:

PNG format should be available under the “Save As” menu, consistent with previous Photoshop versions.

Actual Result:

PNG format is missing entirely from the “Save As” list and it is not even accessible via the “Save a Copy” option.

System Details:

  • Application: Adobe Photoshop CC 2026
  • Operating System: Windows
  • Screenshot: Attached

Impact:

This issue affects professional designers who frequently export optimized PNG files for production use. It introduces unnecessary steps and increases the likelihood of versioning errors in collaborative environments.

Request:

Kindly investigate this regression in the 2026 release and consider reinstating PNG as a native format under the “Save As” menu or provide a toggle option to enable it permanently through user preferences.

What is the Color Mode of the document your trying to save as a PNG?

Is your image in the CMYK color mode?

PNG is fully available here:

Unless it's a layered file, then it's in Save A Copy / Export / Save For Web.

Could it be a corrupt install? Try to uninstall-reinstall.

EDIT - ah, of course, Jeff is probably right. It must be CMYK.

Team, I’m shamelessly admitting I completely overlooked the color mode! 🤦‍:male_sign: It was set to CMYK that’s why the PNG option didn’t show up. Once I switched to RGB, it worked perfectly.

Big thanks for pointing that out, really appreciate the quick and clear explanation. 🙏

I see I got the "correct answer" here, but it should be @Jeff Arola . I unmarked my own and tried to mark his post correct, but it doesn't take. Can someone else try?
