I'm using Photoshop CC (latest updates): I frequently need to adjust images via cropping, extending the canvas, etc. and I use guides to ensure that the whitespace around the image is consistent. It would be so handy to be able to set a pair of guides on one side of the image, then move or replicate those guides and the space between them to adjust the opposite side of the image. How is this done?

You can setup a new template in Photoshop from the option View > New Guide layout and use the Preset Drop down to save it.
To reuse the guides in multiple images, save the New Guide Layout options as a preset using the Preset drop-down menu. You can also choose to Clear Existing Guides if needed. Here are some examples of the guides you can create.
