Multitude of problems with Photoshop

My premium 150€ / year experience so far with Adobe Photoshop:

1 - PSD files constantly lock for unknown reasons, I have to select 'Save As' and save my work on a separate, duplicate file in Windows 10 OS. I can't delete the older 'locked' file until I restart my computer nor save over it.

2 - Lasso tool selection constantly lags, solved by either having to wait 5 to 7 seconds for it to resume or just freeze completely at this point the alternative solution for this is to alt+tab and then alt+tab back in Photoshop, for unknown reasons, this unfreezes the screen and so now it's part of my workflow to be constantly alt+tabbing in and out of Photoshop to work. (Also happens way too often)

3 - You can't get rid of Creative Cloud Desktop app. Even after uninstalling the app, editing registry within your Windows OS, the app is added to your side bar on your windows folders and it'll intrusively stay there forever. No other way around it, contacting support about this is fruitless. There is a whole thread on Adobe forums about this, they refuse to do something about it, for some obscure reason, they want their app to be intrusive and mandatory, even though it's worthless and bloatware and no one uses it when even Dropbox and OneDrive are better.

4 - Older versions of Photoshop require less RAM thus work better than newer ones, because Photoshop has no idea of what kind of software it wants to be, it splits their toolset between being a 3D program, a Photo editor, a painter program, web design and graphic design tool, the RAM takes a hit on this, the lag is unbearable.

5 - They changed how Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Alt+Z works in the latest versions of Photoshop, after Ctrl+Z and Alt+Z working one way for the past ten years, for no reason.

6 - They changed the way free transform tool works, and now you have to use shift+free transform to unevenly resize your object, while it used to be the other way around for the past ten years.

7 - Older versions of Photoshop while more reliable, lack Wacom support for recent drivers.

8 - Photoshop preferences are lost every now and then, so it's handy to have an exported pref file to load when this happens, so I don't have to waste 10 minutes re-configure all my keyboard shorcuts, every time Photoshop decides today is the day for a reset.

9 - Photoshop eraser shortcut (E) key opens top navigation bar Edit menu when it feels like it, instead of switching to Eraser tool. Solution is to alt tab everytime this happens. Support and community forums were fruitless. I had to download AutoHotKey to minimize conflicts but it still happens sometimes.

10 - Pirated versions of Photoshop perform better than the original copy as pirates remove all the creative cloud bloatware requirements of the side app among other useless stuff and accidentally make it work better by removing that layer.

11 - All support attempts at forums are about 'have you tried resetting your Photoshop preferences?' which seems to be the solution for everything that's wrong with Photoshop and it's the analogy of the tech support internet meme of: 'have you tried shutting down your computer and on again?' - which sometimes works, sometimes it doesnt.

12 - Photoshop now adds a 'Lorem Ipsum' layer of text everytime you enter the type tool, just so you have to delete it and type something else.

13 - Photoshop calls in a virtual keyboard in windows 10 by default, everytime you type, unless you do huge work arounds and fixes inside windows OS to have it off.

14 - Ctrl+Z and alt+Z lag if you do it too once too many times and your screen freezes until you alt+tab

15 - Adobe will every now and then either raise prices for European customers or just test raising the prices as a whole, while keeping on working towards providing a worse product than it was in 2015 and before.

In before 'Just use GIMP' - I'm not paying to Photoshop to then go and use the free alternative which is not industry standard anyway.

My specs:

Intel i7 8700k CPU @ 3.70GHZ (12 cpus)

16GB RAM

NVIDIA GTX 1080

Win 10, updated as of the day of this post.

Running Photoshop on a SSD with 80% free disk space.

I can run Zbrush, Maya, Keyshot, Octane and Marvelous Designer, from top of the line industry 3D renders to modeling programs absolutely fine, I run the latest AAA video-games with Ultra high quality settings with no issues, nothing in my PC lags, nothing more than Photoshop, Photoshop is the only one with insane amounts of glitches and lags.

3- thanks to recent changes, the Creative Cloud app is now the only way to install or update Photoshop. So don’t get rid of it, or you’ll never get fixed for your issues.

HI

Long post but I'll try and answer some of it.

1. Locking files is not normal. I use Photoshop every day and have never had this. You don't mention it - but are you using any network?

2. I can't comment other than I've never had that happen here

3. CC desktop app. I'm not sure why you want to delete it, given that it controls updates.

4. I don't suffer lags here - but then again I have 64GB RAM. However as for Photoshop wants to be all things , the problem is there is a wide range of users that want it to be/do all things even where other apps in the Adobe suite are suited.

5 You can set legacy undo in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts

6.Since 20.0.5 you can use legacy transform in Edit>Preferences.General

7.Can't comment - I use Wacom with Wintab in older versions and with Windows Ink in the current version.
8. Agree. However I only occasionaly reset.

9. No problem with E shortcut here.

10. As we often see here - pirated versions often lack functionality and often come with "free" malware.

11. The Photoshop Preference files contain much more than your user preferences. They are also saved when Photoshop closes. This means if Photoshop does not close down correctly they can become corrupt leading to all sorts of unexpected behaviour. So resetting preferences is often a useful first step in looking for a bug.

12. Lorem Ipsum is a Preference in Preferences >Type "Fill new type layers with placeholder text"

13. Virtual keyboard - I've never seen that - can you explain further?

14 Another - I've not seen that here

15. I don't work for Adobe , so can't comment on their pricing but I do live in Europe and it is a while since any price increase here.

Can you go to Help >System info and click copy then paste the info here. It will give far more info on your set up than the 5 lines you have provided and therefore may give more insight

I does sound like the OP works across a network (which Adobe decidedly advice against anyway).

Troubleshoot issues with networks, removable media in Photoshop

So I'm curious if that is the case here or if locally stored files are affected, too.
