Question

My photoshop won't open my files (version 2024)

Every time I try to open a Photoshop file, I get the error message "Photoshop cannot open this file due to a system error".
I've probably discovered one of the causes. But I don't know how to fix it. When I go to my list of applications, Adobe Photoshop 2021 always appears in addition to Adobe Photoshop 2024. I can't figure out why this version of Photoshop is there when my hard disk is empty. It was installed at the same time as version 2024.

If someone have an idea for solving this issue, let me know !

Here's a Knowledge Base article with soltuions that you can try:

None of these work other than uninstalling and adding an older version.

When is Adobe gonna stop releasing buggy updates that are a constant pain in their user's experience. It is super frustrating and overly time consuming to fix.

@kyle5C33 something else must be going on. Go to Photoshop Help Menu/System Info and copy/paste details in a reply. Post only once as the system takes time to process the large amount of data.

@kyle5C33 First try resetting your PS preferences:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#reset-preferences

If that doesn't work, uninstall and then reinstall your Photoshop application using the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

Hi @Emma_frl check your Creative Cloud desktop app/Apps tab - do you see two versions of PS listed? If so you can unisntall 2021 using the ellipses ... icon to the right.

No there is only one in the creative desktop app. But apparently the problem come from the preferences. Because when the bug appears (I mean each time I open photoshop) I can delete the preferences of my photoshop and the bug is gone (but come back).
