Hello!

I really hope someone can help me!

I had to update my Mac to the latest version (Catalina). I also have the latest Photoshop version (May 2020). Sometime along the updating prosess, my rulers stopped working.

By that I mean; if my document is 25 x 15 cm, my rulers will show i.e. 36,75 x 19,2 cm, or something completely random. My image size settings are working (I´ve checked this against other computers).

This is diffuicult as I am trying to make a book cover and it´s hard to control bleed etc.

I have tried to uninstall photoshop, erasing preferances etc, reinstalled; both older versions and finally the new one, restarted, and restarted, but, problem is still there....

I´ve tried the adobe support chat, but he could´nt fix it, so he just hung up on me...

Anyone who can suggesest what to do?

Thenkful for any advice!

You have the rulers set to pixels.

Right click the ruler and choose Centimeters.

Try changing your monitors screen resolution (110?). Fixed inaccurate rulers in acrobat. Restart photoshop to see if it worked.

Digital images don't have physical dimensions, they only have pixel dimensions.

But they can have a ppi value (pixels per inch) that is used to calculate printed dimensions.

Pixel dimensions divided by ppi = printed dimensions in inches (multiply by 2.54 to get centimeters).

Photoshop will let you work with physical dimensions, it does the math for you.

This is the Image size dialog for a 25 x 15 cm image at 300ppi.

If you change the ppi value to 200, the width and height increase to 37.5 x 22.5 cm.

So did you go to Image > Image size and change the ppi?

And what are the pixel dimensions of the image?

Thank you for responding!

I understand I have'nt explained myself very well.

My image setting is working well. When I produce images professiionally, resolution is always at least 300ppi, document size may vary. I seldom make my documents in pixels, as I mainly work towards printed results ( books, magazines) and make the documents in actual print size.

My rulers I use to make guidelines, where to put my bleedmarks or perhaps a logo etc. They have been working fine, showing the correct measurements in cm ( ad that is what I need them ti do, for 10 years. But now, after recent update, they seem to have been taking acid or something along those lines...

If my image is 25 cm long , image size will say 25 cm, if I print the image it will measure 25 cm. However, the rulers on my workspace will measure the image ie 36,75 cm long, or random. The problem is for me to set my guidelines, image itselfvis fine, really.

Hope this was better explained:)

Above screenshot of a file I´m working on. Image is 51 cm long, but my rulers tells me it´s 60,15ish wide. When I created the file a coupple of weeks ago (before all the updating), the rulers were agreeing with the dialog box for image size.
