Question

My very, very first attempt

Hi,

I am using PS for the absolute very first time, and as I am already testing for a focus stacking project I have totally jumped the gun and do not know at all my way around PS.  (I am competent in GIMP, though this is a step up.)  Ok, briefly watching some tuorials it seems the process is bring the RAWs into LR, do your changes (which I have not done here, instead prefer to concentrate on the actual focus stack), then r-click > Edit In to PS.  That's where things have instantly hit the bumpers.  My test has 35 shots, but it appears (again, I do not know what I am looking at) only 8 have 'imported' (or whatever is the appropriate term).  I have taken the process no further.

I will run through a thorough PS tutorial soon, but just wanted to test this photography idea first.  Please advise,

DC

The recent file list is not a list of open files , just a list of recently open files.

Follow my steps exactly - particularly steps a and b to open as layers within a single Photoshop document

If in doubt show a screenshot at each stage

Right, that did do something, brilliant.  Though I don't know what - chortle (again, I really need to get my bearings with PS).  First, I had to change scratch disks - this is self-explanatory.  Second, 35 RAW files (I think) did blend, though I couldn't see on the UI any new document.  Three, when saving a ma-hoosive 12GB file has been created on the root directory of my changed scratch disk - can I simply delete this as I am most likely having to start over again?  And four, I'm not sure what, if anything, saved because a bote came up saying that a 4GB limit on TIFF files has been exceeded.  To be fair, I'm asking questions well ahead of my current working knowledge, and should set aside time to get to know the UI of PS.  Thank you for any help, all the same.  DC

The scratch file will automatically be deleted when Photoshop closes. No need to touch it.

When saving a file, the PSD fiile format has a 2GB limit, TIFF a 4GB limit if larger files are required a PSB file is needed (it has a limit but it is in Exabytes so you will not run into it)

You can also save a flattened copy (flatten the layers and Save As) as a TIFF or jpeg to share with others.

Hi

I do this after syncing the development settings in Lightroom:

a. In Lightroom, highlight the raw images, right click and group into stack.

b. In Lightroom, Photo > Edit in >Open as Layers in Photoshop

c Click on first layer and shift click last

d. Edit Auto Align Layers
e. Edit Auto Blend Layers (stack option)

Hi Dave, thank you for getting back to me.  Ok, as said, I am totally new to PS and haven't even watched yet a tutorial on even knowing the UI, etc..  Still, I am at a loss here.  The same as yesterday, following your instructions now and 35 photos in is now showing up in PS as 14 photos (see attached photo).  I'm sure whatever I am looking at has its purpose, but to follow your instructions I need "layers" showing up with all 35 images, to then focus stack/blend (so that I can show the client the potential here).  Again, sorry for putting the cart before the horse, it's just that i need a workable, immediate result here.  Thank you, DC
