Need help to understand printer profile in Photoshop 2020

Community Beginner ,

Using HP Envy photo 6234 and colour output is oversaturated. The colour profile list in photoshop 2020 doesn't list printers. Can somebody explain what the list is and which profile I should use. Thanks

There are no print profiles available for this printer. It's all done in the printer driver. If there were, you'd get them in the list.

You need to "Let printer manage color" in the Photoshop print dialog, and trust that the printer gets it right. To be on the safe side, you may have to convert files to sRGB before sending to print. That's what it's primarily intended to work with. Most likely it can also handle Adobe RGB, but ProPhoto should be avoided.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried your suggestion and it seems to be the only way to go with this printer. The results are certainly better.

My aim was to try and get something out of a low end printer that looks something like the image on the screen, so I can work out that if I send an image to a printing company I will get something very close to what I produced on screen. I am using a Macbook Pro Retina (Catalina 10.15.3) Photoshop 2020 so I am trusting that what I see on my screen is a true representation and not what is coming out of the printer.

Thanks again for your help.
