Photoshop still crashes constantly when

- immediately when neural filters is selected
- when quitting Photoshop (this problem already occurred with InDesign some time ago and was fixed after the last update) Now the problem also exists in Photoshop since the last update to the latest version. What the heck are you guys always doing at Adobe!!!

I know where to find the presets and my libraries folder.

If I select in PS preferences to delete the presets when I exit PS and then restart PS, the Neural Filters work. If I then exit PS and restart it again, PS crashes right away when I click on the Neural Filters.

So it seems that PS works with fresh, untouched presets and overwrites the presets on exit. After that, I can no longer use the Neural Filters.

I had already used the Adobe Cleaner Tool and reinstalled PS. And in doing so, I did not have the old presets installed.

So here's the tough part. Since it doesn't crash as a new user, there is a conflict with something in the original (Admin?) user that is making it crash. The hard part is figuring out what that is. The first task is to disable all auto log in items in Users and Groups>Login Items in your System preferences (System Settings in Ventura). You can make a screen capture or jot down what each item is, disable, restart and try again. If it doesn't crash, you can add one or more items, restart and try again. At some point, you may find which item is at issue. It isn't easy but that's really the fix unless you do a clean install of the OS which might be more work. 

The bottom line is, that something in your user account is conflicting with Photoshop. Gotta find out what that item is.

I have tried all the suggested approaches. Unfortunately, this does not help.

However, I have found out that the conflict is related to a file called FMCache.psp. It is located in the user folder > Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings.

If I delete this file and then restart Photoshop, I can click on the Neural Filters without PS crashing.

When PS is closed, PS rewrites this file. Afterwards, I cannot click on the Neural Filters without PS crashing.

I have tried this with all other files in Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings. Deleted each one individually, restarted PS, etc ...

The problem only ever occurs when PS writes this file (FMCache.psp) on exit.

The question now is what this file does and in what context it could be related to another file to cause this conflict.

The com.adobe.dunamis folder in my user account > library > application support was empty.

As I already wrote, I had started Photoshop 24.1 in another user account and tested it. In this user account, Photoshop had created several subfolders in the com.adobe.dunamis folder and written data.

In my user account, as I said, this folder remained empty. I now simply copied the subfolders from com.adobe.dunamis from the other user account into my user account. And voila: now the libraries are there in Photoshop and the Neural Filters can be called up without Photoshop crashing.

Why Photoshop 24.1. did not write any data to my user account in the com.adobe.dunamis folder remains a mystery to me. As a user who installs and starts the software, you have no influence on this.

Another thing:
I did not have write permission for the com.adobe.dunamis folder. If I completely uninstall the suite and then reinstall it, I assume that the rights are correctly assigned by the Adobe installer. This was obviously not the case here.

Ok - so the 2017 is going to be more apt to crashes due to the age and speed, but there are some things you can do to help mitigate this.

1. Go to Apple System Settings/Security and Privacy/Full Disk Access and make sure PS is listed and active.

2. Go to Photoshop Settings/Performance and disable multithreaded compositing.

3. Go to Photoshop Preferences/Technology Preview and check “Disable Native Canvas”.

4. Restart PS - are you still crashing? When you do are you including your email and submitting to Adobe?

I was having issues sometimes with the Neural Filters. It will get stuck loading and you can't exit (without closing the program) but I still needed to save my project/image changes. Anyway, I just clicked  "esc" on my keyboard and it closed neural filters and took me back to my regular work. I hope this helps you. I have a Mac Apple chip computer too.
