No EXIF data and File Infor freezes Photoshop CS6

when i try to get file info (File>File Info) in photoshop cs6 i get a blank, white screen and photoshop freezes or i should say i can't close the info window. I have tried raw and jpegs but it doesn't matter, it just won't show me anything and i can't close the window so i have to force-close phtoshop. Tried turning off the computer and restarting but it didn't help. Never had this problem before.

I also noticed i can't clear the recently open files under "Clear recent file list." It doesn't clear.

Any idea what is going on?
