Hey

Do any1 know any noise generator alternatives? I'd like to be able to specify size/spread/distance and so on.

Good day!

What do you mean exactly?

The Add Noise Filter or is »noise generator« a 3rd party plugin?

I mean that the photoshop noise generator has very few values. Like insensity and 2 more useless options.

What I would like to do is to make a noise map that is very sparse, or very dense, or have a very bigh size dots.

A standard option that you can find in many other applications. But PS seems to be lacking them as the noise was never really updated and produces artifacts at high res images.

So I wonder what plugins for PS can offer that option.

Are you talking about the Filter »Add Noise«?

In case you are indeed talking about »Add Noise« you may have misunderstood »Distribution« and »Monochrome« because they hardly should be called »useless«.

In any case I am not aware of a plugin that would do what you seem to be looking for, but I think there used to be some Filter for creating »starry skies« which I cannot identify now, so maybe I am mistaken.

Maybe Nik’s Silver Efex’s or Colour Efex’ Noise would better meet your tastes than Add Noise.

Naturally this would not offer the same comfort as a proper Filter but it should not be very hard to create custom noise-patterns with amended »size« and »distances« with some Layer and Blend Mode finagling.

Could you post examples of what you are trying to achieve?

No other default Photoshop Filter for adding noise comes to my mind now but I already had asked in post 1 whether you meant Add Noise.

Edit: Added numbers for clarity.

1) Pattern could be considered a bitmap noise (using the right images)

Plus others I may have forgotten about.
