Normal map creation corrupts screen display - transparent background

When creating Normal maps in the last three versions of Photoshop the result is good but it distrupts the display creating transparent areas where the background areas were, this shows through the quick launch items etc.  The display is not always updated with the normal map either.  This requires a full restart of Photoshop to regain the normal appearance.

Try going to Preferences > Technology Previews and check "Deactivate Native Canvas". Then click OK and close and restart Photoshop.

Note though that 3D functionality, including the generation of normal maps, is to be discontinued in Photoshop. More details here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/3d-faq.html

I am not an employee so I am not privy to future plans from Adobe, however the Substance 3D apps are separate to CC.

You can of course keep the current or older versions installed when the next major version of Photoshop comes along. Just make sure the CC Desktop app is set to keep the older version installed. That will give you access to the current version for generating your normal maps as well as the newer version.

Thanks Dave, worked a treat.

Not being able to use Normal maps in Photoshop is a significant problem for me as I use them allot.  I can but assume that using Substance to create them will require paying for it or are they going to do the decent thing and make it part of Creative suite?
