I have a new laptop and installed Adobe Photoshop 7.0 (older version). Recently, when I try to open Photoshop, I get an error message: "Could not initialize Photoshop because there is not enough memory (RAM). Then it closes. How do I fix this?

Which version of windows do you have?
How much ram does your computer have?
What is the size of the drive and how much free space is left?
That's photoshop 7 or photoshop elements 7?

Run it on the old laptop where it used to work, or get up to date on the new laptop.

In photoshop 7 under Edit>Preferences>Image & Memory Cache, did you set the ram usage to 100% before ps 7 started generating that error?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem, the only is that I use Photoshop 5.5 on Win 7.0
(old notebook, ram 4gb, only for short purposes).
As soon as I set the ram usage to 75% (before it was set to 50%) the Photoshop started generating
that error.
Unfortunately, the advice below does not work.
when i'm use the keys combination Ctr+Alt+Shift + right-click mouse -> Open,
Photoshop starts up, but does not offer to reset the settings, only offers
to change the Scratch Disk, and then the same error (((
If any thoughts How can I manually delete this settigs file or reset settings through deleting registry keys?
Thanx

Denis,
The amount of memory allocated to photoshop 5.5 is stored in the photos55.ini file in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop 5.5\Adobe Photoshop 5.5 Settings or
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 5.5\Adobe Photoshop 5.5 Settings (32 bit win 7)
Open the photos55.ini file in Notepad and see what the MEMORYUSAGE is set to.
If it's set at 75 then you can change it to 50 and save it.
If the value is still at 50, then there is another location:
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop 5.5
where you can change the value to 50 in the photos55.ini file.

If you don't recall changing that setting, then that wouldn't be the cause of the issue.
Best thing to start with is a reset of the ps7 preferences by:
holding down the Shift+Ctrl+Alt keys, right clicking on the ps7 shortcut and clicking Open
keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings File and click Yes
