Not letting me SAVE AS

Currently working on an image with several options needing to be saved. Every time I try to SAVE AS I get the spinning beech ball which disappears after a while - and then nothing happens.

This is now the THIRD time I am unable to save my work since I have upgraded to CC, from CS3. I've never had this problem in 20 years of using PS until I've started using CC. I am not happy or impressed at all. This is just not good enough.

A couple of things - do you have external drives connected to your Mac?

Are you accessing the files and attempting to save to an external source?

If so, this could explain why it freezes as soon as you try to save.

Beyond that...

3042 MB Memory available to Photoshop

4748 MB Memory used by Photoshop

This is not enough memory to effectively run Photoshop.Your system OS is going to take some of that and if you have anything else running you are now below the minimum requirements.

The minimum is 8 GB recommended is 16 GB.

As soon as you open a document and start working, this will get used very quickly and cause issues.

I've been using PS CC for 2.5 months now, but this is the 3rd time it's not letting me save or save as. I'm running Monterey, so fully compatible with CC.

I can't see why it randomly and out of the blue does not let me save my own work.

Photoshop needs to be in the Full Disk Access, not Files and Folders.

Full Disk Access trumps the other settings and gives access to everything.

Thanks for this info. This is the first time I've heard about needing to do such a thing.

And there was no instruction from Adobe, or within PS itself, when I installed CC to do so.

I will change this setting and hopefully this problem won't happen again...!

Go to Mac OS system prefs>Security and Privacy and make sure Photoshop is listed (and checked) under Full Disk Access.

If it is or you enable and it still doesnt work - please go to Photoshop Help menu/System Info and copy/paste details here.

If you upgraded from CS3 to CC using the same Mac I'm wondering if your setup is even compatible.

Thanks for the reply. It does not even get so far as letting me set a location to save as to.

All I get is the spinning beach ball and then it disappears. Back to square one.

Where are you saving to? Does it work to save to the local drive (e.g. the desktop)?

First step would be to make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:
Restore your preferences using this manual method:

Does it work correctly?
If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.
