obj color when exporting

Hi,

I was wondering. If I extrude a text in PS (the latest version 2021), and say the text is green color....and make it a 3D object. The 3D object is, or at least looks green, all the way around.

Then I export the object as an 'obj' fiile......................will it retain it's color?

If I import the obj file into some other software, should the 3D text look green?

I tried importing such a file into an online viewer but it was purple. I didn't know if it's the other tool, or if you can actually include color information in an obj file. Or if you can put color info in an obj file, but PS doesn't do that.

Thanks

if you export the object as wavefront Obj with Png textures you will get a [standard square] texture map yes... upload that with the Obj and the Mtl or edit the texture map to be whatever other colour you want

p.s, if you don't have a map in your export then you go back and generate UV and try again... the default colour is gray but just change it

Thank you so much for this information.

So....oddly or strangely enough, I am importing the obj file into software called Magic Music Visuals. It's kind of like a VJ software that generates graphics/visuals from music.

This software can only import an obj by itself: so my question is, and I think the answer is no, but the obj file by itself with nothing else does not contain color inforrmation, correct??    As you suggested above, it will just be gray.

wavefront Obj is the model itself

the mtl file is like a list that says what other images to load onto the Obj and which face has what image

the textures can be colour codes but image textures are the standard and what moden system expect... in my example you would zip the Obj with both the mtl and at least the green texture map inside the zip folder then upload it

I don't use the "Magic Music Visuals" so you would be better asking them what format options you have but a Obj file on its own doesn't have any colour no... you need the mtl or at least software which can generate a default mtl at the other end

I'll reach out to them. Thank you again. I don't do much 3D in PS so I'm not familiar with how it works.
