Object selection causing problems. Please help me out

Hi, I'm making selections with the object selection tool in some images, but ones where I want multiple selections going at the same time, will always cause the first one to disappear. I thought I just hold shift to get multiple ones. What could I be doing wrong? Thank you in advance.

It really ought to be working that way - does on mine, on my Mac. Question - are the things you're selecting on different layers? If so, remember to choose Sample All Layers in your Control Bar. Also, you may want to use the Add To Selection Widget, if the Shift key isn't doing what you want (again, assuming Sample All Layers is on).
