Object Selection Tool - Error

Hello Everyone

Running Photoshop Version: 21.1.1 and recently the Object Selection Tool has stopped working. 

I click on the icon, drag accordingly and after I release I recieve the message; 
''Could not complete your request due to a programe error'' 
Image attached. 

Had no luck finding help on the net, so here I am.

What have you done for trouble-shooting so far? 

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:
