Object Selection Tool missing

Explorer ,
Dec 29, 2019 Dec 29, 2019

I have read solutions (or rather the solution) provided by Adobe on this forum and had already researched it prior, but nothing seems to work. The Object Selection tool is still MIA. Thoughts please?

What version of Photoshop do you have? Can you post a screen shot of your customize tool panel UI, as I have below?

Thank you for responding. My version is: PS 20.0.6   And I do use Topaz Labs Remask for difficult masking/selection jobs, but sometimes you just need a quick selection without all the masking involved, so this looked interesting. Screenshot 2019-12-29 at 5.32.32 pm.pngexpand image

“My version is 20.0.6”

That’s PS CC 2019, which does not have the Object Select tool. There are updates to bring 2019 up to 20.0.8, btw. The version that has it is PS 2020, aka 21.0.2, so you’ll need to get the version that was released in November to get this tool.

Done - but odd as my Mac usually automatically notifies me when an update for PS is ready, and I have not had any notifications? Will check it out. Thanks.

Hi KM,

  • If you were able to install PS 2020, then launch it from the Creative Cloud app. The icon on your Dock may still be the one for 2019 and both may be installed and you can run both simultaneously.

Yes my iMac more than meets the requirements. I work as a render artist for Special Events for  my meagre living, so need to be up to scratch with all those lovely big files I have to work with. This is a head scratcher, but today is MY BIRTHDAY!!!  so I have spent enough time with this for today and need to indulge in some birthday cake. I will tackle the problem again tomorrow. Thank you ever so much for your generous help.

Happy Birthday!  :birthday_cake:

Tomorrow, tell us if 2020 is showing in your CC app. If not, sign out and sign in again.

You might need to contact Adobe Customer Care: https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
Click the chat icon in the lower right and type "agent".

Thank you so much jane-e. I think I might be a wee bit OC, so I did go back last night, (after the birthday cake) 🙂 downloaded 2020 and the object selection tool is now in place. The OC kicks in as well as now I need to know why Creative Cloud did not tell me there was an update which is usually does? Oh well... problem solved, so moving on.

Wishing you a Happy New Year and all the best for 2020. Thank you.

You’re welcome, KM.

I wish I could tell you why the CC app didn’t notify you about the update! But I’m glad you were able to download 2020 and have access to the Object Selection tool now. There have been a few folks who have had it not show up even with 2020, and the Edit Menu > Toolbars as in Chuck’s first screen shot solves that issue.

The Object Selection tool is new with PS 2020. Confirm you are running that version, then go to Edit > Toolbar for the screenshop Chuck is asking for.

Done. I started using PS in 1995 with PS 3.0 so been in this rodeo for a while. Twenty five years and how time flies. Amazing though how there is the odd thing that will still stump you.
