Object Selection Tool - Program Error

When I use the Object Selection Tool, the box sits there for about ten seconds around my selection with the dots going round then this error box appears:

Could not complete your request because of a program error.

After clicking OK I get pink fringes around objects!  I have to find other ways to do what I want!

I'm not sure if this has ever worked on this computer. (I normally use PS6 on my laptop which works fine)

Everything else on this workstation works fine.  The computer is a 2017  Dell Precision Tower 5810 with Intel Xeon E5-120 v4 processor and 32 GB Ram

I had the latest PS6 installed and I have tried going back to the previous version, but its the same.  I am a hobby photographer with only limited experience with Photoshop.

Any help would be very welcome, thank you.

My guess is that this is GPU related.  In fact, a quick search imediately found this link:

I don't know how up to date the GPU FAQ is, but have a read through.  Check other functions that use the GPU — the FAQ will tell what those are.  It might be as simpla as a driver update, but my gut tells me that you might have a fight on your hands.

Good luck

Thank you Trevor, it does indeed seem to be a GPU related problem.  In Preferances - Image Processing - Selections Processing I have now altered the setting from Faster to More Stable which has fixed the problem.  Its a bit slow but it gets there in the end!  I'll look at investing in a better GPU.  Thanks again.

You've posted in the Dreamweaver BUGS community.  I am not aware of an Object Selection Tool in Dreamweaver.

What you describe sounds like a memory problem.  Does your computer CPU, GPU and VRAM meet or exceed current specifications?  See requirements below.
