Odd Issue with opening Files in Photoshop

When I open any file type in photoshop from my mac desktop, I have to click outside the image twice before any of my keyboard shortcuts work, actions, or anything else is recognized by PS. A minor inconvenience, but I sure would like it to stop and go back to simply opening an image, hit the "F" key to enlarge the file, run actions and begin editing. When I am editing rush images, it gets increasingly frustrating when my keycommands and shortcuts aren't working the second I open an image because I didn't click the image twice. Plus I get that annoying beep sound, like I have another program running instead of PS and the command or keyboard shortcut isn't recognized by some invisible program other than PS.

This started happening after I upgraded to v26.5, but has remained after I went back to v26.4.1 and v26.3.

Anyone else ever have this issue?

Could you tell us a bit more about the issue you're running into? Knowing which version of Photoshop you're using and what language your keyboard is set to could help narrow things down. Also, sometimes other programs running in the background can hijack Photoshop’s shortcuts, so it might be worth closing them one by one to see if that changes anything.

 

If that doesn’t do the trick, you could try resetting Photoshop’s preferences to bring everything back to its default state. Just make sure to back up your brushes, actions, workspaces, and any other custom settings first, since those will be wiped in the process.

Also, sometimes other programs running in the background can hijack Photoshop’s shortcuts, so it might be worth closing them one by one to see if that changes anything.

Ah ha, thank you, that was it. There was a plugin window that was added to PS by IT that was actually under my History window, I never saw it. I closed that and its back to working fine.  I feel ridiculous, but more happy the issue is fixed. Good call, thank you!
