Question

Oil Paint filter not smooth

Hi,

I've been looking at tutorial videos of painterly poster effects and everyone is using the OilPaint filter which leads to these gorgeous smooth images. But when I use it with all the same settings I get these hideous twirly effects and rough images that are nowhere near as smooth. Regardless of what image I try - high res - 32 bit/64 bit... am I missing something? Is there a setting elsewhere that I would need to change?

I'm on the most recent Macbbok Pro using Photoshop 2023

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Could you post examples of what you want to achieve and what you get instead?

The oil paint filter is not the best to emuilate a painting. It is way mucch better to combine several esthetic filters from the gallery.

Thjis being said  I would recommend you to uncheck lighting.

here is the original image

Here is painting with lighting which is harsh

And without lighting way more softer

Lighting is at the bottom of the dialog box

Hope it helps
