Oil Paint Filter not working - CS6 - Can you help resolve this?

Can you help? The CS6 oil paint filter is not working. The error is: "The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest software."

I have the latest graphics driver software. I have the latest update for CS6. I have followed various community support recommendations to no avail.

In the Advanced Graphics Processor settings (preference, performance) only "Basic" is available and I can't select (grayed out) "Use Graphics Processor to Accelerate computation" and can't select "use OpenCL".

My System: Windows 7 (64 bit), HP Pavilion dv6-3250us Notebook with Intel(R) High-Definition Graphics Driver.

I can't help you as to why 'Use Graphics Processor' is greyed out on your system, but I do know that unless this option is checked, I cannot use the Oil Paint Filter in Photoshop CS6. If I try to use it with this option unchecked, I get a message basically saying this option needs to be selected for the Oil Paint Filter to work.

You haven't installed the Photoshop updates -- you should be on 13.0.3 or 13.1.1, not 13.0.0.

Oil Paint uses the GPU, and requires a decent GPU.

Your GPU doesn't support many of the features needed by the Oil Paint filter, and barely supports any of the GPU features in Photoshop (notice that it does not support OpenCL, or Normal or Advance mode for GPU drawing).

Thank you for your inspection of my system and for your help.

I did an update. I remember some type of update error but thought that it resolved itself by closing and reopening (as the update error message suggested). I'll try the update again.

As for the GPU, which concerns me most now, what do you consider to be a decent one?

The Intel integrated GPUs are about on par with ATI and NVidia GPUs from 6-8 years ago.

Almost any ATI or Nvidia based video card from the past year or two should work well.

But if you have a laptop, the GPU can't be changed.

Did you update the graphics driver from Intel's website, Microsoft (mistake), or your laptop maker (also a mistake)?

In the end, Intel. However, first I attempted at HP (laptop maker). I got an error so I went back to Intel. After the download, got another error so I rolled back to the original driver. That is where I am presently. UPDATE: now the driver is 8.15.10.2189.
