Sorry to be the guy to make yet another clone stamp thread... but I need help and the other ones haven't been answered yet. So to avoid waiting for you to reply and then have to wait for me to upload a screenshot of my settings in Photoshop, I will pre-emptively upload a screenshot. Lol.
Im having an issue where I hold Option + Left click to select my clone source, and then go to clone over for example, lets say a hair on my clients dress, and the preview that I have goes away. I release my click and its like I've done nothing, but I still get the "clone stamp" in my history.
Im sorry to open another discussion on this topic but I've found no answers on any of the previous topics
This could happen when there is a very small selection or pressing Hide hidden Extras ( cmd + H )
Go to select -> Deselect ( cmd + D ) and try the clone stamp again.

I can't see anything wrong from your screen shot (thanks for providing it). I'd go right ahead and reset All Tools (left end of options bar). It's not like resetting Preferences that takes you a week to get everything back to how you like it.

Resetting the tool didn't fix my issue either

I can't see much wrong with your settings either, unless you have a hidden selection somewhere and Ctrl-D or Cmd-D will deal with that. I would though question cloning onto a duplicate layer in the first place. The way I like to clone is onto a new empty layer as you can see visually something is happening. Also this enables you to give a few pixels of blur to the cloned object when finished which normally makes for a better blend.
Below is the hair on the dress removed at high magnification with layer1(the clone layer) on
and below is with the cloned layer switched off. In both cases you can see something on the cloned layer
and below just normal magnification.

So I definitely had a hidden selection somewhere, but I tried hitting cmd + d to deselect and it showed in history that I did actually do so, but I tried selecting the patch tool which I was using and hitting cmd + d again and low and behold it worked!! Thanks everyone for your help, you were all correct!
