Old version Abobe Photoshop 6 Question

Somehow, when I use my TEXT tool to type on a JPG and click on it, The entire JPG turns red. I can't figure out how to get the TEXT tool back to being a normal text tool.

Sounds like you have the Type Mask Tool selected

 

For photoshop 6 click the T in the Tool Options Bar as indicated below

 

 

 

For photoshop cs6 select the Horizontal Type Tool

Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels (Roolbpx, Layers, Channels, Options Bar, …) visible?

Thanks! It was the Task Mask option selected. I am not a photoshop guy other than a few basics.
