Hi All,

Apologies for the flashing/strobing you're experiencing when opening files, this tends to affect older graphics cards (GPU) that don't support all of the aspects of DirectX 12.

For Windows:

  1. Update Photoshop to version 24.5 or later
  2. Enable the Older GPU Mode option in Preferences > Technology Previews > “Use Older GPU Mode (pre 2016)"
  3. Check if there's a GPU driver update available and update if so

For macOS:

  1. Update Photoshop to version 24.5 or later
  2. Update to a newer or latest ma

We would like to find out if there are any of you on Windows for whom:

A. Use Older GPU Mode is Checked, and

B. Deactivate Native canvas is Unchecked, and

C. are still experiencing this strobing issue with a GPU that supports DirectX 12?

If so, could you please provide Photoshop's Help > System Info dialog text in this thread?

Try enabling "Deactivate Native Canvas" in General Preferences and restarting Photoshop; better?

When I open Photoshop, the app appears normal. However, when I click "open" to try and open a file, the screen of PS starts flashing black and white so rapidly, I am unable to use the app. What do I do?

I have the same problem. Photoshop was fine until I upgraded yesterday and then instead of being able to edit a png file all I get is a flickering white workspace. I tried uninstalling anything that said Photoshop and reinstalling Photoshop with no avail. I checked other software I use including Filmora 12 and Cartoon Animator 5, no flickering. I have two graphics cards INTEL and NVIDIA.

I've just updated photoshop and the opening tab is a flashing background that you can't interact with whatsoever, except to partake in an epileptic seizure. Frankly, I don't understand why every "update" creates new problems on a machine already updated to the new MS operating system.

Can anyone provide advice?

Many thanks.
