Since yesterday's update, can´t even open a jpg file. Always says: Could not complete your request because of a program error. I need to work.

Hi all,

05/20 update: We have resolved another program error issue while dragging assets from libraries to the artboard in Photoshop 22.4.1 update. Could you please update Photoshop to the 22.4.1 version via the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app and let us know your feedback.

Here's how you update Photoshop to its latest version: Update Creative Cloud apps

Thanks,

Mohit

Update fixes NOTHING I'm sorry to say.  Still getting the "Could not complete your request because of a program error" message.

I've tried clearing the cache.'
I've tried allocating more-memory (I have 52GB of available RAM on my PC)

I've tried changing the scratch-disk location (I have 2.2 TBs of available space on previously-working location) to other drives.  Same result.
I've tried lowering the history-states to the bare-minimum.

I've tried disabling GPU acceleration.
I've tried lowering the resolution of the image.

Nothing has worked.

I am running a Ryzen 9 3900X 12-core 24-thread at 3.7Ghz per-core, RTX 2060 GPU, 64GB of DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO PLUS NVMe SSD computer.

After installing the update from 12/09/2020, I constantly face similar troubles. After several manipulations with Smart Layers, a message appears about the impossibility of saving the work due to a program error. It also refuses to duplicate PSB file. Some times I managed to save the situation by dragging and dropping the changed layers into the parent document and then saving, but this crutch does not always work.

I just uninstalled Photoshop, then reinstalled an older-version.  So far everything is working correctly.  Hopefully it continues.

Every time I try and save as any format it says 'Photoshop could not save ________ because of a program error'. Have lost & had to redo my work three times now.

I'm on MacOS Catalina and Photoshop is fully updated.

If you choose to Save As and create another file, does that work?

Where are you saving your file to?

It doesn't matter what file I'm working with - the error comes up every single time. I have also tried saving to multiple different locations and it does the same thing.

I have seen people on twitter saying the only 'fix' is to revert back to before the latest upgrade.

I think we will have wait for the next update hoping it provides a real
fix. Otherwise ver. 21.x is stable.

Yeah.  I downloaded and installed that version.  Seems to be working pretty good.

Please fix this issue or refund/ lower the monthly subscription until you do. It has been two or three releases since this has happened and still not fix in sight.

This is getting really annoying.

Still not working for me. Tried everything in your troubleshooting list and nothing helps. Only turning off the GPU support. Which is a real bummer and makes it pretty much unusable for intense work. This is already the 3rd update after this major bug appeared with Photoshop 2021 and it's still not working. Adobe should reduce pricing on creative suite users until they get this fixed. I am now considering rolling back to Photoshop 2020 – unbelievable.

Here's system info:

This happened to me after the update I did yesterday. I get this message when trying to open any file or even closing the program.

Just had a user report this exact issue. Running on a MacBook Pro macOS Catalina 10.15.7. Disabling the graphics card in PS settings seems to have worked but obviously not optimal.

Have this exact problem, update did not help.

Hi there, I'm still having this problem. It only happens when I want to use blur gallery, then the 'could not perform this request due to program error' pop-up shows up. I've tried troubleshooting by deactivating 'enable generator'. I've tried it on multiple photos now. I've also restarted Photoshop and made sure I have the updated version.

Nice. Just renewed my membership too. Uninstalled deleting prefs and reinstalled, to no avail. CANNOT EVEN CREATE A NEW FILE. Thousands of pros must be having this problem and unable to work for the past month or longer. Where is the fix, Adobe?

Until there is another update that fixes this issue the only effective
workaround (not a fix, if you want you full graphics card features and that
workaround did nothing for me) is to return to the previous version. This
has worked for me.

I'm on a MacBook Pro 2017 with Radeon Pro 560. Have no idea what this has to do with "full graphics card" -- I can't even create a new file or open a file. How the heck do I return to a previous version? This is Creative Cloud. Is there even an option to choose the version installed? I can't believe this passed QA -- if Adobe even has QA. Adobe is rolling in money, in fact drowning in it, and they can't even provide decent QA for their products.
