P: Program error while opening or creating new document after Photoshop 22.1 update [2020]

Since yesterday's update, can´t even open a jpg file. Always says: Could not complete your request because of a program error. I need to work.

05/20 update: We have resolved another program error issue while dragging assets from libraries to the artboard in Photoshop 22.4.1 update. Could you please update Photoshop to the 22.4.1 version via the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app and let us know your feedback.

Hello, ever since installing the update to 22.3.1, the app crashes on startup. I'm pasting the top part of the bug report, below. Any suggestions?

Thanks, I also had to go back to an older version 22.0 for me. Have no clue what is going on with adobe but I can now work again.

THIS IS WHAT IT WORKED FOR ME!

I was having the problem of not being able to save the .PSD files "because of a program error".

I went to Photoshop, preferences, general, and clicked on "restart preferencees when exit", then OK, restart photoshop and it works now. hope its same for you 😉

This same fix resolved an unrelated issue for me! v23.4.2 was hanging whenever I tried to open a file. Kept getting a "working on it" notification, and then the app would hang. Just tried the "restart preferences when exit" approach and PROBLEM SOLVED! Thank you!

4/15 update: We have fixed a number of known bugs related to the program error in the 22.3.1 update of Photoshop.

To update Photoshop to 22.3.1, click "Update" in the Creative Cloud desktop app next to Photoshop. More detailed instructions for updating

If you have updated to Photoshop 22.3.1 and tried all the suggestions offered in our documentation for program error & still getting the error, please share the System Info from Photoshop with us.

In Photoshop, select Help > System Info.
In the System Info dialog, click Copy.

The information there makes it much easier for us to track down what is going on.

Photoshop was updated to v. 22.3.1 but that only made things worse. After the update, Photoshop opens and displays error reporting stating that photoshop encountered a problem and needs to close. Never ending story ...

Same issue 22.3.1, started two days ago. I reverted back a couple of versions that used to work and still same issue. So this morning I went back all the way to 2020. Works fine now, like the good old days

After reverting to several versions of 22 that used to work fine and don't anymore, I went back to 2020 version and that's my fix for now. Hey at least I can save again! Haha Hope this helps you!

Hello. When I open Photoshop V 22.3 I get a message: COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR REQUEST BECAUSE OF A PROGRAM ERROR. I can not: perform, ADJASTMENT, IMAGE TOTATION, CUT, COPY, TRANSFORM AND MANY MORE operations

so many people are having this issue for so long. it's really impacting my ability to get work done.

just updated to 22.3 since the 39 page post said it fixed this issue but it did not!. Since it seems like you're ignore the 39 pages of posts, i thought i'd start a new one. sooo frustrated for the first time with adobe. I can't even stop the program now without going to task manager. yes, been through the 39 pages of suggestions...you really just need to fix this.

In a last few days was a error on all my actions as - Could not complete your request because a program error. I did complete reinstallation my sustem with format disck, install photoshop and the error is still show.

I have Photoshop installed on a Windows 10 device and when I go to open an image to work on I get a pop up window that says "Could not complete your request because of a program error." I have tried restarting my machine as well as uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop. This error pops up even when I open Photoshop and try to create a new document or open an existing Photoshop file.

Hi Nikunj,

Thank you for the info. I still keep getting the same error. I did the user diagnostics and below is the info it gave me, even after going back 1 version that worked 2 weeks ago.
