Patch tool. new function ?

Community Beginner ,

Hello,

I'm a professional photographer and retoucher and I wish for further cc versions a new function in the patch tool. It would be great, that the selection will be automatically deselected when we change the tool. I work very often with stamp and patch tool with my Wacom tablet and I loose a lot of time, because very often I have to go back to the patch tool to deselect the selection (made by mistake). It would be nice that we could choose "deselect automatic" when we change from the patch tool to another tool.  What do you think ?  Andreas

Thank you for your answer. cmd+d is an option.... but with the graphic tablet it is very easy to select a small dot by accident.. if I leave the patch tool it would be much nicer to have the option "auto deselect when tool changed" in the tool settings. If I change the tool it means "I want to make something else" If only a small point is selected i do not recognise right away.

Its not just the Patch tool.

I find it very hard to use Photoshop without a  keyboard with a graphic tablet or a device like a surface PC without its keyboard.   Now that Adobe has committed to releasing a Photoshop 2019 version for the iPad Pro. I'm hoping Adobe will develop a UI that is useable without needing an optional device like a iPad Pro keyboard.   If they can do that perhaps they will make that workspace available to Mac  and PC tablet support.   Photoshop UI is a vintage 1990 UI.... it need some modernizing....

I do not like the Idea of any Auto deselect  some is done though.   I think you may get very upset if you are working on creating a very complex selection and you did something that kicked in auto deselect

The patch tool used to deselect by itself when you selected a new area. The new feature where you have to patch something then deselect is slower....

I completely agree.  I do alot of photo restoration and deselecting the patch tool is a big pain in the patutie. I used to be able to go over large areas without having to deselect every time. It went from - select/drag/select to select, drag, deselect, select. If anyone knows a way to fix this issue I would be very happy... Adobe!

Adobe Photoshop team, I sent feedback on this issue more than a year ago. You promised to fix this as this automatic deselection from the previous patch tool's selection already existed. Still, this is not fixed yet! This creates A LOT OF REWORK and slows down the work flow for professional photographers. Please assign resources to restore this feature and simply have selections automatically de-selected when clicking again the patch tool. It was there, should not be difficult to restore and will help thousands of people. Thanks.

The solution is to keep the extreme left square selected. With this, the automatic de-select is enabled.Screenshot 2023-08-18 142916.pngexpand image
