There have ben several threads about this, and I think I should make a feature request (or better: bug report).
But just in case I miss some other checkbox, here is the thing:
Even while "Snap vector tools and transforms to pixel grid" is turned off, the pixel behavior of a path still snaps to pixels.
For the pixel peepers out there (including me) this is impossible to work with.
Take this path.
I want to make the 45 degree outer edge razor sharp by moving the shape up in subpixel steps.
( And yes I know I can draw this shape with regular pixels but not complex shapes obviously. )
Even while I can move the path in subpixel steps, the shape just jumps a complete pixel when the next pixel is reached.
This was possible in older versions but apparently it's been killed off.
In addition to turning off Snap vector tools and transforms to pixel grid also uncheck Align Edges in either the Direct Selection Tool or Path Selection Tool options.
Then you should be able to do the Sub Pixel move without of snapping to pixels.
