I am trying to put a pattern inside of a shape. That part is ok. The issue i have is when the defined pattern is inside if the shape it becomes unfocused  and the text can't be read. Any tips to fix this.

In Photoshop, pattern overlays are rasters, not vectors.  For this to work well with text in a pattern, make a bigger pattern chip with text that is a legible size and quality for the shape it will reside in.  See screenshot.
