Question

Patterns saved inside PSD without pat files

Hello community, hope everyone's well!

I got a question that it's a bit tricky but made me think a lot. I create a PSD file with some random layers inside and 10 different patterns fill layers, choosing those patterns from my own custom collection that only exists inside my PC. Then I save the PSD file and share it with other persons. Do they still have the ability to edit the pattern (scale and rotation) and see it as it was saved inside the PSD file, or do they get some kind of error or missing file message? Do I need to share the .PAT file with the custom-made patterns I added inside the PSD file?

Thx in advance 🙂

If you double click on the Pattern Fill Layer, then a user can click on the Create new preset from this pattern to

save the pattern to their Pattern Presets.

After that the user will have to save out the Pattern(s) to disk as a .pat file.

Hi Jeff, thank you for your reply!

I understand what you said and, implicitly, you answered my question too. A new user can create a new preset from the patterns I saved inside the PSD file and those specific files "live" in that PSD even though that user hasn't saved them in his pc.

Thx 🙂

Hey, R_o_s_s_! Welcome to the Photoshop Ecosystem Community. I'll help you figure this out.

You can create an online collaboration feature in Photoshop using the Cloud document format. The document is stored online so that those you invite can edit the same Photoshop document through the cloud.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Hi Shivani, thank you for your fast reply!

About your answer, I kept searching online for some answers and found the Cloud-shared document you just mentioned 🙂

But in case I don't want to use that and just share to other people the PSD file with some custom-made patterns that only exist inside my PC, do they get some kind of error or missing file message?

Are these patterns saved inside the PSD file format on my side and all the data will remain there for other people to use on other PCs that don't have those patterns?

Thx 🙂
