PDF Opening Problems

First, what the heck is a "Photoshop Ecosystem"? Why do you keep changing things for no good reason? I kept thinking I was in the wrong forum (and for all I know, I still might be).

 

Second, I have the very latest Photoshop on my Mac. Now when I open a PDF, it just opens the PDF. Previously, when I open a PDF, I got a window which lets me select either "pages" or "images". This was great for extracting photos or other elements from a PDF. How can I get this feature back?

No, no chance of that. I tried rt-clicking file-->Open With-->Photoshop, I tried File--Open through Photoshop, but no luck. It just opens the file as a straight PSD. EDIT: I got to thinking maybe this particular PDF was the problem, so I tried opening another one, and sure enough, the dialog box opened. Didn't think to try that earlier, as this was the first time I have ever encountered the problem(!) Anyway, thanks for the assistance.

Things get changed when the world changes. In this case, Photoshop used to mean just the Mac and Windows version. But now, Photoshop includes the versions on mobile and web, which sync to each other, therefore creating what Adobe wants to call an “ecosystem.” Their idea is that “ecosystem” lets you know the forum can answer questions about any aspect of Photoshop running or syncing to any of its instances or services on any supported platform.

 

Unfortunately, “ecosystem” is a word nobody uses for tech products except people who work inside tech companies, so that term can be confusing to many people.

Well, I’m with Earth on this one…using normal Open or Place commands, or drag-and-drop import, Photoshop always displays the PDF Options dialog box and I can choose pages etc.

 

However…I was able to make it skip the dialog box (open a PDF directly with no options) by holding down the Shift key while clicking the Open button in the Open dialog box when a PDF file is selected. So, is there any chance that is happening? Or, is your computer running any software that modifies button clicks, the Open/Save dialog box, adds keystrokes, etc?

I think some environmental scientists would disagree with this. 😁

I agree with this as far as it relates to Adobe.

Well, that’s true…I edited my earlier post for clarity.

 

Of course people outside tech use the word “ecosystem.” But for most of the rest of us, “ecosystem” is what you drop your phone into when it slips out of your hand and into a river or canyon during a hike. 🙂

So your decree is Adobe reasons are invalid for creating  "Photoshop Ecosystem" and you lack of knowledge about different PDF files formats make you thinks that PDF  files now open differently then they did in the past.   Acrobat's PDF file formats open through an  Import PDF UI where  you can Import PDF Items like and images  as Photoshop Documents.  Where Photoshop's  PDF file format open directly into Photoshop like a Layered imaged file. This is not a perfect world you are on the thirt rock from the Sun.

It's called "feedback". Considering I have paid Adobe thousands of dollars for the privilege (cough-cough!) of using their software for 30 years, and suffered through all of the betaware they've foisted upon their paying customers over the years, I think I'm entitled to express my opinion on their products. Deal with it. Some people do not like when a feature or function simply disappears overnight with no explanation. Especially when they have deadlines to deal with. Buthtis is what happens when a company becomes too big to fail. They do whatever they want, then hire "Community Professionals" with condescending attitudes to offer "helpful support".

And when you're asking for tech support, always list your app version # and the OS you're using.
