Question

Pen pressure doesn't work in Photoshop CC on my Surface Pro 4

I've had this tablet for over a year, and I don't think pen pressure in Photoshop CC ever worked for me. Pen pressure works beautifully in other apps, however, such as Painttool SAI. I've searched through this forum and Google search and haven't found a solution to the problem that actually works (update wintab driver, make a PSUserConfig.txt file, yadda yadda). I did find a poster or two who guessed that the problem is with Photoshop itself since pen pressure worked with other software for them as well, so I know that I haven't been the only one with this problem. I would very much like to use some of the beautiful Photoshop brush sets I have, and I would appreciate any help to get this fixed. Thanks.

I turned the options I turned off back on in devices-->pen and windows ink, and it fixed the drag problem. So #3 is not a workable fix and made things worse. #2 did nothing.

Got it. Let me find something else for you.

I did both options 2 and 3. When I went to disable Windows Ink, it turns out that it was never configured in the first place.

Now, not only does pen pressure not work, but the brush drags very, very slowly, so 2 and 3 only made things worse.

Any other solutions?

Well, that's been the standard response since at least 2016.

My pen pressure never worked. Is this solution really as simple as uninstalling the most recent windows update?

Hi,

This problem is the result of a compatibility problem between windows ink and a recent windows update . There are three options

1. Uninstall recent update you made and prevent windows from reinstalling it

2. Disable windows ink in your tablet driver. If you disable windows ink you will lose pressure sensitivity with the brush tool in photoshop. A workaround to restore pressure sensitivity is to enable WinTab functionality. Create a text named PSUserConfig.txt with the following lines:

# Use WinTab

UseSystemStylus 0

place the file in the following directory

C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2018\\Adobe Photoshop CC 2018 Settings\

restart photoshop and be sure Windows ink is disabled

3. Go into windows settings

devices-->pen and windows ink:

turn all options to off

adding the config file worked for me.
