Question

Pen Tool still a problem

Ladies and Gents,

I just realized that my PS had been updated to version 22.5.1. Naturally  I assumed that the bugs in my Pen Tool had been fixed but NO! I am very frustrated. First, what older version could I try that had a pen tool that worked and how do I find it in the Creative Cloud? When I tried to find an older version I could not figure out how. The only message I see is that my PS has been updated. Now what? I really want my Pen Tool.

Thanks,

Richard

Hi,

Here is an article that allows you to see what versions are based on release date:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/legacy-version-updates.html

And you can instal older versions using your CC aplication, not online but the CC app in your applications folder.

Give this a try and let us know if it works for you.

Thanks,

Hi,

Yes, it may seem like some is important and some is just waste, but paste it all and our team can pick it apart and see what stands out as issue-possible.

Thank you,

Cory,

I think that would like to try to install the 2020 version of PS to try and get a working

version of the Pen Tool. Upgrading the graphics card in a 7 year old machine might not be the way

to go. However, the oldest version of PS on my drive is 21.2.12.

Can you walk me through what 2020 version I should download and then just how to do this process

without screwing up my current version which is 22.5.1?

Thanks,

Richard Gold

Install 21.2.12 from the other versions pop-up.

Cory,

The System Info goes on forever. How do I copy that and send it to you?

There is a copy button when you go to Help > System Info. Go to a Reply window and paste the entire contents.

Hi,

Please share what specific issues you are seeing with the Pen tool with the latest version of Photoshop. What issues are the same from your previous Ps version?

You could also go to Help/Systen Info and copy/paste the info here so we can see if there is are issues based on that data.

Thank you,

Hi Cory and thanks for the response,

The specific issues are that the Pen Tool is not working. Whenever I click with it there is basically no visible response. I can try to establish anchor points and the connecting lines but they are not visible. If I then go to CTRL + Z on Windows 10, those anchors and lines then show up although with errors. If I persist I can sometimes produce a selection but the Pen Tool is just working properly enough to use.

I am not alone. Why didn't the update to 22.5.1 fix this tool that so many people are having problems with? Do I really have to upload an older version of PS to get a working Pen Tool? Please get this fixed soon.

This exact bug was fixed some time ago, so i'm thinking that you might have multiple versions of Ps installed and you're actually launching the older version with the bug. Look in your apps folder to check that you don't have multiple or use the About Ps window to verify.

I think you forgot to mention how the Pen tool isn't working for you?

Mr. Bullo,

I think you are the 'Professional' who asked me if I have the latest update of PS 2021 and I answered that I did now have 22.5.1. Thank you for the 'download previous versions' of PS but what version has a working Pen Tool that I can target?

Any version prior to my last? And why hasn't Adobe fixed the Pen Tool outrage with the last update?

Thanks,

Richard Gold

Hi Richard. I'm just a regular Photoshop user. I can't specify a previous version of Photoshop to install. Your hardware and software setup is unique to you and any number of elements could be causing your problem with the Pen Tool.
