Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how many photos you can use on Adobe Photoshop or CS6.
Can't decide which one to get but need it for a project now that has about 130 photos I want to use on a collage.
Thanks

I'm not sure what you are asking. CS6 is the discontinued suite of applications, one of which is Photoshop. It is not available to purchase.
Photoshop can do a collage and there is no hard limit to the number of photos.

Hi Lumi,
Sorry I might have been a bit unclear.
I see there is still CS6 for sale in our country, might be why I wasn't aware they are discontinued.

Do not purchase CS6. At this point in time it is either a pirated (malware) copy or a used license that will no longer work after installation. It's a known scam.

Your question is close to meaningless as you don’t give pertinent information about the images in question, their pixel dimensions, bit depth … and the hardware.
With a decent computer (as concerns processor, RAM etc.) a file with 130 layers should not be a problem depending on how large the Layers and the containing file are.
Also
»Adobe Photoshop or CS6«
does not describe two separate things per se; Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Adobe Photoshop 2020 are both »Adobe Photoshop«, but Adobe does not sell perpetual licenses for CS6 anymore and you would do well to be wary of offers for that on the web …

Hi C,
Sorry for my statement being a bit meaningless.
I'm unfortunately not very high tech and trying to do a personal project.
I need to make a collage where I'd like to use approximately 130 photos.
It is on an A0 that needs to be printable.
The photo sizes vary, some are good, some not, but I know my pixels for the A0 needs to be 14043 x 9933. (I think the inches should be 43 x 33)
I'm using a laptop that's quite a few years old with an external hardrive (don't know if that makes a difference except for saving capacity.)
I don't even know my laptop's spec so I have no idea if it can handle the size of what I need at the end of the project.
Not even sure if this helps a lot.

The important thing in this case is, in my opinion, to use Smart Objects, so that consecutive transformations do not degrade the individual images’ quality unnecessarily.
And as jane-e mentioned you should avail yourself of the available trial to make sure the software meets your needs.

Thanks C,
I will definitely try the trial first.

If you can’t buy directly from Adobe in your country, then you use a reseller. Go to this site and enter your country name.

Any versions of CS6 that are being sold are pirated. They may not function and they may contain malware.
A second option is Adobe Photoshop Elements, which supports 8000 layers. You can get a 7-day trial of Photoshop and Elements to see which will work best for you.

Thank you so much Jane.
I am considering buying it directly from Adobe as I have a deadline so can't wait for it to be delivered.
I've heard of Elements as well, I'll give them both a trial run.

Hi
When you start the trial, do a few of the 130 images and then ask again in a new post if (when) you have any questions about the procedure. Screenshots will help.

Thank you so much Jane,
Simple question, can you save and edit later again?
Or do you have to start and finish it at once?

Yes, you can save and edit later. With that large of a project, it’s a best practice to save incremental backups. Some people number them filename001.psd, filename002.psd, etc. — I like to include the date. Save to save the current version, followed by Save As with a new name.

A collage with 130 images is possible. You should be more concerned about the 130 image layout, image aspect ratio and use of the collage. Any Photoshop version newer than CS will do. Images can be resized and masked for a particular aspect ratio. Laying out 130 images with various sizes and aspect ratio will be more like putting together a jigsaw puzzles where all peaces the have various rectangular sizes and image content that may or may not match other peaces and the peaces may not fit together into a perfect rectangle shape.

Thank you JJMack,
I will play around with it and see what works.

Free Photoshop Mockup anh Photo Collage Toolkit
My Photo Collage Template design is limited to 53 images. That was not my intention. I wanted templates to have an simple design so template creation would be easy and script could populate them with images and stamp image populated with file names. I designed templates around usint Alpha Channels for mapping Image location size and shape. I did not want Templates using smart object layers in the templates for Content replacement because of the Problems there are with Place and with Replace content requiring replacement object files to have the exactly sames size. aspect ration and Print resolution of the objects in the templates. I had to give up the advantages that Smart Object template have. The Ability to distort image will rotation and prospective. My scripts do place in images as smart object layers using Place but handles the problems in places and are able to resize any size image as replacements. I did not know Photoshop had a 53 Alpha Channel limit when I started my project...
Included is my PlaceImageRoll script the can tile out any number one images onto a canvas. That is the script I used to layout the 130 image in my prior append.
In the beginning of 2019 I added a Mockup template design that only smart Object Layers on the top of a mockup template's layer stack are supported. So it now possible to Mockup a 130 Image Collage that can have a custom image layout and support image distortion like rotation ans perspective. However, my mockup scripts do not support stamping text on populated image for they have no idea as to where a smart object layers associated transform may have position an image or know how many smart object layer may share a smart object being updated.
