Question

Photomerge CS5 doesn't work

Just try the Photoshop CS5 Trial after working with the CS3 ver.

When I try to merge images with the photomerge workflow, it seems that everything working just fine, but after the processing bar shows that the photomerge finished - nothings happen.

The process just ends & there is no panorama, only the same 3 source images I used.

Any suggestions ?

i have the similar problem here. Trying photomerge with 8 photos or just 2, it won't give the outcome of the actual merge. the "merged" file just disappears like it never had been opened at all.

I'm using pretty decent pc, lenovo D20 (intel xeon5560, 8gb, W7/64bit, QuadroFx4800). The strangest thing is, that photomerge used to work some months ago just perfectly.

I tried to install photoshop again, but the installing program informed me that "Windows is waiting for the computer to restart" - which was pretty odd, because it really didn't wait to be restarted...

I have also encountered some failures with my QuadroFx4800 - it has hanged up couple of times, but recovered on the spot... so, I have no idea what could cause these problems.. I'll try to updated drivers for my Quadro and then run a repair install for the windows..

I'll let you know. Photoshop has been repaired.

Quadro FX eh?  Out of curiosity, what happens if you try the same operation after doing this:

    1.  Edit - Preferences - Performance.

    2.  Uncheck [ ] Enable OpenGL Drawing.

    3.  OK out

    4.  Close and restart Photoshop.

    5.  Try the Photomerge operation.

Quadro FX has worked just fine for me (and couple of other acquitances) although I don't do any graph-stuff.

The thing you suggested didn't come to my mind, but even though it didn't help.

No that it worked a bit slower (i think) I managed to see a glimpse of the layer icons at the layer list - and photoshop has aligned them and twisted the separate images to match each other. But it doesn't open the big file.

My friend told me, that he has the same kind of problem as I have, but not until he tries to put 20+ 21mpx photos together and runs out of memory. could this be somekind of memory fault with photoshop?

Ps. I send my images to my friend who put them together and send them back :] Problem solved, temporarely

Same problem here: I run a brand new system (HPE elite, nvidia 230 Geforce, 6 gb ram, new PS CS5, no pugins; I get a white screen on both 32 and 64 bit CS5. Updated the graphic card software to no avail. Please help.

Photomerge not working seems to be a Windows problem as it works on most machines but not all. My problem seem to clear up right after I cleaned up my old XP system and got rid of all the software that was loading at boot up and causing a slow startup. I stopped so many that I don't know which one I stopped cured the problem. I would go into MSCONFIG and turn off everything and see if that fixes the problem. If so then turn on a little at a time and see if the problem comes back. You can even see if the problem goes away by booting in safe mode. If either fixes the problem , you know it's not an Adobe problem.

Thank you for your respons, Bobbymonte,

I had the exact problem with Photomerge running all the way and not giving up it's final output.and had to use auto

align and blend to put photos together.  I decided it was time to clean up the programs that boot up during

Startup. Using MSconfig and another program called autoruns.exe (which is a free download) I stopped about 10 programs from preloading which speed s up booting. After rebooting I decided to try photomerge and sure enough it is working. My problem is I don't have a clue what program I stopped fixed it. But I don't argue with sucess..

Than's bobbymonte. I tried but it just didn't fix the problem.

I had the same experience with CS5: " When I try to merge images with the photomerge workflow, it seems that everything working just fine, but after the processing bar shows that the photomerge finished - nothings happen."
I separate Root, Administrator and User accounts on my Mac.
The Photomerge (Panorama) function relies on a Java script Photomerge.jsx.
For some reason part of this script requires to have superuser permissions to execute properly [simply changing the script ownership and permissions wont work].
My workaround is to run Photoshop as "Administrator" if I need to do a Photomerge [no problem with the same image files].
The other automated scripts [e.g. HDR ] seem to work fine when run as an "ordinary user", which makes me believe  its definitely a permissions problem.

Just to let the last two posters know...  This is a Photoshop Windows forum, and problems on the OSX version of Photoshop may not have the same solutions or workarounds as problems with the Windows version.  You might want to re-post here:

    Hello  everyone.
Photomerge in CS5 certainly has some  problems. I do often these unions photographic and  CS4 had arrived to be very pleased with the results. CS4 perfectly united picture very different in saturation or  exposure. And speaking of panoramas made also by  8-10 shots. But the most important thing is that  never misses a shot.
I've been using for  several weeks and CS5 Photomerge function 50% of the time does not work. The errors are varied, but usually at the end of  the process we end up with one of the photos to be joined and the rest  of the landscape in white.
Is not calculated or  even the new wide-screen is enlarged but instead see a single image.
Or even 3 are merged images of 8 and reports an error.
So, with version CS5, the Photomerge function has moved back  sensational. A pity!
I  hope some guru Adobe is reading!

    I usually  work with
    Mac Pro 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel  Xeon
    MAC OS 10.6.4
    16  GB of RAM
    no plug-ins installed in Photoshop.

Recently I made a 22860 x 4867 pixel image out of 15 5120 x 3413 images using the CS5 Photomerge facility without any problem whatsoever.

What size images are you stitching?

Are you using the 64 bit Photoshop or 32?  If the latter, how much memory have you allocated to Photoshop?

I do not know where the bug is only Murphy knows.  For the last so many releases of Photoshop I have stitch my test case images 6 5MP Portrait images with Photomerge to compare the result to the stitch I get using the PTassembler GUI for Panorama Tools.  Photomerge had been getting better and better.   CS5 Photomerge has some problems. I us 32bit version 12.0.1 no GPU video card. If I try to stitch the images  it start to go through the motions. Loads the images into a stack. Take about 10 minuets to update the lens profile cache , align the images after  or during the alignment of images the document vanishes.  Photoshop is standing there operational but empty.  I the tried two images thank goodness the lens cache did not need up dating. Two images worked then 3 ... then 6 even worked. Stop and start Photoshop try two  lens database cache needs to be updated CPU 100% Photoshop getting 82% and after much time it works.  Stop and start Photoshop try six  lens database cache needs to be updated CPU 100% Photoshop getting 82% and after much much time it works. So sometime it works sometimes it fails. I did not use the same options in all test.  Content aware fill always runs out of memory.   CS5 seems to has some strange bugs.  Rulers displays have messed up on my displays drag out selection starting inside rulers messes up my display,  My Photoshop preferences have been corrupted many times.  Drag steps within the action palette when the palette need to scroll messes up the display. Drag back down fixes what is being displayed.  Lots os strang little bugs for sure.

Hey you guys, thank you for your attention.

Marek - Of course I tried to restart / reinstall / reset PS, I'm familiar with computers, but still...NOTHING.

JJMack - Thank you for the help. I did as you did & I've got my panoramic image.

Not the most convenient way to merge images, but still - better than nothing.

Adobe people (hope you'll read it) - are you familiar with that problem..?

Usually I'm using other panorama app', but I prefer to work within the same workflow.

I'll guess I'll keep folowing this forum, hoping to find solution to that stupid problem

I hava that problem too CS5 32bit version 12.0.1 Photomergs goes though all the motions and just when you think it is going to display the final stitched image the document vanishes from Photoshop..

    My work around

File>Scripts>Load files into Stack check Auto Align Layers

    Targeted all layers

    Edit>Auto Blend Layers

That seemed to do a Photo merge and any work around is better the dealing with Adobe support.

Did you try to restart Photoshop/computer? Did you try to reinstall Photoshop? Or maybe try to reset Photoshop preferences?
