Photoshop 2019 - Layer Mask doesnt work

i have set up f3 to be a shortcut to open layer mask but i get an error message. layer mask doesnt work when i click on the icon and most of the menu is greyed out? Any ideas how tot fix?

    A screenshot will be the best way for the experts here to troubleshoot this problem.   Please do post one and I'm sure this will be resolved quickly.

    How does the shortcut kn0w which layer mask to open? Does you document even have a layer mask?  What do you mean by open layer mask?  When you click one the icon which icon would that be?  Most of the menu is grayed out what menu would that be?  I have no idea of what you are doing..

    Hi

    Have you opened those images via Bridge or Lightroom? If so, there  is a known issue with greyed menu functions. There is a simple workaround which is to make sure Photoshop is open first before opening the images from those other applications.
