Photoshop 2020 crashing...alot!

I upgraded yesterday and as long as I do simple tasks like changing a file size I'm good. As soon as I start to get complicated, ie: changing the color in a duotone or adding an effect to a layer, it crashes. I can't get my work done!

This is still happening. When it does it, it doesn't keep the tool presets, brushes or anything new I add. It only keeps them if I close Photoshop after installing them. This is unacceptable. It's extremely frustrating to be working on professional software for it to STILL be doing this. Also when I use my XP-Pen it makes it worse, it crashes more often when I use it.

Same problem here, Photoshop 2020 keeps crashing on Catalina 10.15.3

And not only crashing, it completely tears the whole Mac apart, only thing to do then is force shutdown... 😕😕
Even when there is nothing special, just using the lasso tool, suddenly spinning beach ball and that's it...

I'm experiencing regular crashing also. Doing my head in, thinking about possibly moving to a different application. Each update seems to have a new bunch of bugs.

Latest crash was simply opening a new file (with two currently open). One file was 43MB and the other tow less than 2MB.

Yes! This is still happening and it's frustrating. Almost every few times I use a complex brush or a file with a few styles I get the wheel of death. This is not acceptable. I keep loosing work.

Which ones would you need - sorry I'm not a big techy

it says macOS Mojave version 10.14.6

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)

Processor

3.5 GHz Intel Core i7

Does that help?

Same here. Even certain PSD or PSB files I try to open will crash it. I can't get projects done if I can't OPEN them let alone work on them...

It seems to be dealing with Smart Objects.

This is insane. I have the same issue, and it just throws a wrench in productivity.  Once simple layer style change and spinning wheel of death. Makes it unusable especially with a client in my office and what would take seconds now takes 5-10 minutes to resolve.  Doing what others are doing and using old version till this gets sorted out.

Cmon Adobe.

Did you attempt any of the recommended solutions offered in this thread?

None of the so-called "Fixes" worked for anybody else.  So what is the point in trying them? I would NOT have purchased the upgrade if I knew it was so full of bugs.  I cannot even complete my first SIMPLE project.

Please HELP!

I just downgraded to previous version. Need to wait until theres a patch for it, it's unuseable for me at the moment on a Macbook Air running Catalina.

Hi, I solved a lot of problems with Photoshop (crash, freeze and image not updating) by disabling dark mode for the application...

link for the command line method

That would apply if you have previously forced it into Dark Mode. This page specifically calls that out:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-and-macosmojave.html#CrashwithonlyDarkMenuBarandDockterminalcommand

"If you've used a terminal command to enable only Dark Menu Bar and Dock in Mojave, this setting can cause Photoshop and other applications to crash. Follow the instructions to revert to Full Mojave Dark Mode on the same page."

After having upgraded my Creative Cloud applications to V21.0 and V10.0 respectively, my 2019 Macbook Pro will not resolve full screen images or perfrom "Merge to HDR" fuctions.  I have uninstalled bothh updates, and my system operation is back to normal.

I'm seeing a pattern of users experiencing the same issues related to color and PS 2020.

Please post your issue to the bug report forums. It is monitored by the PS Team.

Try trashing your Photoshop preferences. Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) immediately after launching Photoshop. You will be prompted to delete the current settings.

(Mac OS only) Open the Preferences folder in the Library folder, and drag the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder to the Trash.

This action only affects the items found in the preferences dialog box. Numerous program settings are stored in the Adobe Photoshop Preferences file, including general display options, file-saving options, performance options, cursor options, transparency options, type options, and options for plug‑ins and scratch disks. Brushes (and lots of other setting) are not affected by the above instructions for deleting preferences. You may wish to make a screen capture of the settings in the Preferences dialog to reset them prior to deleting of this file.

I'm having a constant crash issue too but so far it seems just when setting layer styles e.g. stroke, gradient fill etc

I've deleted the preference settings but this has not resolved the problem and have just tried re-installing but this has not resolved it. This is making PS pretty much unusable so any help would be appreciated!
