Photoshop 2021 Selecting Layers Problem??

I know I can't be the only one dealing with this. Something weird is happening when I try to select layers to work on them. For instance I used to be able to click on a folder of grouped layers and move that entire group at once, but now only selected layers are moving. Or, I go to move a specific layer, and Photoshop automatically selects a different one. It is seriously messing with my workflow. Help!

OMG! I thought Photoshop was gaslighting me, for months I have tried to figure out how to even explain what is happening to be able to ASK a question.

Same here, with issues with clicking on a layer and having it...

1) Actually hold onto it

2) Looking away, looking back and layer is no longer selected

3) No matter how many times I select View> Show> Layer Edges it only lasts for the time I am working on that one layer (I've tried creating Actions and nope, don't work)

4) No matter how many times I change Preferences to Use Legacy Free Transform I have to reset it everytime I use Photoshop. Not just when I reboot, etc. But everytime I click into an open Photoshop document

5) I use a Kensington Slim Blade Trackball and all of a sudden it no longer holds when I click on a layer. Sometimes I have to turn off layers to end grab another one.

I know all these are minor issues when I have heat, electricity and food, but my head is exploding! A one hour job takes twice that and my stress level is thru the room.

Ideas on any of this??? THANK YOU!!!

I'm having the same issue.

Layers selected, when I press CMD + T for free scale, the layers selected, still selected, but the objects on artboard not.

BAD BUG 😕😕

the way to solve it, but not the correct, I put all the layers on a GROUP, and then scale the group. It works, but it's a jerry-rig

If you use the drop down to the right of Auto-Select you have the option of choosing just the layer you are selecting or the group it is contained in (if it is in a group).  Do you know that if you turn off Auto-Select you can temporarily re-enable it by holding down the Ctrl/Cmd key.  That has always been my preferred way of working.

I've been having the same issues for MONTHS now. Got so frustrated I stopped using it on my computer for a long time and just used my phone BUT prolonged the process and I got behind. Hope a fix comes ASAP!

What happened when you tried this as posted above Andrea?

If you have AutoSelect enabled in the options bar for the Move tool, then uncheck it to see if that solves it.

The problem is I want to be able to auto select. I just want to see the
the lines around the layer I selected like it used to be. Not around
something else. That is the way it was. Now it just selects what it wants
to. What happen to the pointer tool?
