Photoshop 2025 > Automate > Generator Plugin - GREYED OUT

Enable generator is checked off in Preferences so I'm not sure what else to do.

I work in photoshop all day for an in-house corporation I really can't afford to be missing this. Please help!

Correct answer Decoye

for future me, when i have to solve this again on a possible new install.

it was fixed by activating the generator plugins undersettings and restarting photoshop.
then unlock the background layer.
that moment, the export assets dialog became workable.

This happened to me as well - Photoshop > Settings > Plugins > Enable Generator was checked but it was still greyed out. I unchecked it, then re-checked it, and then restarted photoshop and it seems to be working now. Good luck!

Hi. I was having the same issue this morning with Photoshop 2025. The 'Enable Generator' in settings was checked but the 'Generator plugins' was greyed out... Restarted, re installed..... no luck.

BUT...

After i typed in a file extension (.jpg) on the artboards I have the 'Generator plugins - Image Assets' came alive. Go figure. 😐

I still use an Intel Mac. Are you on a newer "silicon" M chipset based Mac? Have you tried running Photoshop in Rosetta mode?

The following may or may not help:

P.S. There are other ways to export layers to files, even if not as convenient as Generator, at least you can get work done in the short term.

Adobe ships with an old "Export Layers to Files" script and there are perhaps better alternatives, depending on the task:

Rosetta doesn't seem to be relevant on this unfortunately.

I thought this was a fix but now I have new dialogue box on photoshop open.
