P: Photoshop Polygonal Lasso tool & pen tool Backspace does not delete anchor points

Explorer ,
Oct 27, 2024 Oct 27, 2024

Bonjour ! Avec Windows 10 et Photoshop CC 2024 l'outil lasso polygonal refuse les retours arrière.

Pourriez-vous me dire ce qui peut causer ce problème assez désagréable s'il vous plait ?

Cordialement

Hey, @Zafer37586609c1kv. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out.

As a test, try using the Polygonal Lasso tool with the Shift key to draw straight lines before using backspace to erase. If that does not work, reset the Polygonal Lasso tool itself. Right-click on the P. Lasso Tool icon in the Toolbar menu and select Reset Tool.

Can confirm. PS 2025.
Polygonal lasso BACKSPACE or ESCAPE no longer do what they have been doing since... forever. This is totally breaking the functionality of the tool. QA much?

@Ken Curtis - Thanks! That worked for me. Delete and Spacebar now work again as they always used to.

I just launched PS 2025, unfortunately the Magnetic, as well as the Polygon Lasso tool are bugged.

When selecting with the Polygonal lasso Tool and magnetic lasso Tool , I cannot move the viewport by holding down [SPACE] and cannot undo the previews points by hitting [BACKSPACE].

From as long as i remember Photoshop back to v6 there was ability to delete points you place using Polygonal lasso tool by simply pressing Del key on keyboartd, now with latest version of PS they totally removed this ability and if you mess up complex selection, have to start over entire thing.

Please put back ability to delete it back.

It involves creating a work path from your selection (a right mouse click) and the direct selection tool.  Let me know if you need more than that.

Hello, in Photoshop 2024 and 2025 versions, the lasso tool shortcut keys sometimes work and sometimes don't. The situation is the same on different devices. Reset settings and clean installation were performed. Is this a Photoshop bug waiting to be fixed?

Shortcuts don't work if the Photoshop window does not have focus. i.e if you can see the Desktop behind or outside the Photoshop workspace, and you click on it for whatever reason, then Photoshop shortcuts will not work.  Could that be what is going on for you?

Other apps can steal Photoshop's shortcuts.  Ctrl Alt C for Canvas Size has not worked for me for a couple of years now, and I have tried hard to fix it.  I know that when I use that shortcut, Photoshop loses focus, but can't work out where it goes to.

Defkey.com has an extensive list of what apps use what shortcuts, but just the L key with no modifier is going to be a tall order to find.  It does give a list though.

Having the EXACT same issue.

You would think for a PAYING customer that would improve the software, but this is a major downgrade.

I can't delete the points with backspace or DEL.

I tried to reset the lasso tool but it doesn't work.

I tried to draw with the polygon lasso tool with the shif key pressed (as described in this post) but it still doesn't work.

Hey @Milko37656671vnte, As of right now, I am not able to recreate the issue, but I am happy to help troubleshoot. Can you also share your system info? You can find this by going to Help > System Info, copying and pasting it into a text file, and attaching it here.  ^CH

Thanks! Can you add a for more details? Also, a screen recording helps us diagnose the issue.

  • Issue - a short description of the problem.
  • Steps to reproduce - a numbered list of the exact steps needed to replicate the issue.
  • Expected result - what should happen after executing the last step.
  • Actual result -  what actually occurred after the previous step

In the meantime, check for updates and try to re-install Photoshop. Thanks! ^CH

I can confirm this issue as well. It extends to the Magentic Lasso tool as well. As points are made, it's no longer possible to delete the last point or even cancel out of the drawing mode at all. You have to commit the drawing, then undo to start it over. Seems to have been a regressiong from a couple versions ago.

dear @Claire H.

  • I can't delete the points created by the polygonal lasso tool or those created by the magnetic lasso.
  • the steps are those necessary to create a selection with this tool, please don't make me write them.
  • I would like to be able to delete the points created with these tools just like I can do on MacOS
  • even if I try to delete them, the points remain in their place and if I made a mistake in one point of the selection, I have to redo the entire selection or close the selection and make a new one to correct the previous one

As @Milko con la elle indicates this does not seem to apply on Mac.

  • if I made a mistake in one point of the selection, I have to redo the entire selection or close the selection and make a new one to correct the previous one

In such a case I would recommend switching to Quick Mask Mode and correcting there, either with the Polygonal Lasso Tool or even the Brush Tool.

When I am using the magnetic lasso tool, my keyboard shortcuts have stopped working, or work sporadically. I am using the Creative Cloud. I have tried using Photoshop 2025, Photoshop Beta, and even Photoshop 2021, but they all do the same things.

While making a selection, pressing the space bar will not allow me to move around the canvas.

While making a selection, Ctrl+ and Ctrl- will not zoom in or out.

While making a selection, delete or backspace will not delete that last anchor point.

Is there some setting that has been reset during an update? Everything was working correctly until a couple of days ago.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

So where is this post now?

I followed the link and I don't see it anywhere. There are howver a lot of posts by PC users with the same unresolved issues.

Where else would I go for support?
