Photoshop 22.4.3 on MacOS 11.5 Batch Process Actions not working

I am trying to get Photoshop to use and Action to Batch process a bunch of Tiff images in a folder on a connected drive. I want to open them, resize them and save them as JPGs into another folder on the same connected drive.

I've used Batch before and it always worked. But now Photoshop just puts up a dialog which tells me there are no images that photoshop can open in the folder!? I tried using the same Action on some other images that were already JPGs (just in case it was a TIFF issue) but I get the same dialog saying there are no images to open.

To me, it looks like Photoshop can't actully 'see' the folder that the images are in. The reason I say this is because in my Action, I can see that one of the 'Save As' options says 'in: File or Folder not found'.

I've added some screen shots so you can see if there's something I'm missing.

So I guess my question is this: Is this a Bug with PS 22.4.3 or a Bug with MacOS 11.5 or something else?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Also, while I have your attention, why is the Action in the 'Image Processor...' script the last thing that happens? If I use this to run my action, It will open each file in turn and make me OK the Save As and the JPG options! I would have expected the action part to be number 2 after the Open from folder?

🙂

There are many threads about setting permissions on Macs. I guess that might be problem.

Thanks Kukurykus,

I came to this conclusion too! - I will check out these other threads and see if I can find an answer.

Is your external formatted to Ex-Fat or other Mac Specific journaled format?

Catalina (bad) and Big Sur (worse) are causing issues with applications accessing external drives not exclusively Mac formatted.

Here's an easy test. Create a folder on your local HD and put a couple of images in. Run your batch processor - does it work reading/writing to the local?

If yes, then its definitely the format of the external.

If no, it may be something else.

Hi Kevin,

It's a Mac formatted drive. In fact it's the original internal HD drive inside the computer. I use an external SSD for my start-up/applications.

I tried your suggestion and it did work! However, going forward, I can't put all of the images I need to batch process onto my SSD as there is not enough space! So while your suggestion helped - and thanks for trying - it's definately not a format issue. So I guess it must be the permissions in some way? Photoshop has full disk access but perhaps I need to set something else?

Thanks again. 🙂

Can you confirm what the format is for the SSD using Disk Utility?
