Photoshop 22.5.1 Performance Issues & GPU Issues on Catalina 10.15.7

Photoshop Version 22.5.1 / Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013)

Processor: 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1 GB

Photoshop is causing my whole computer to slow down to a snails pace and making it impossible to work.

I have made sure all versions are up to date. I can’t see any option to update to Big Sur on my mac.

In Photoshop > Performance > I cannot access the Graphics Processor Settings and its says “Photoshop detected an error in your display driver. Updated or reinstall the driver … “

Other online research suggested two things, to check which GPUs are installed in PS > System Info but I cannot make sense of that. Also when I go to User>Libraries>Preferences there is no Photoshop folder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have updated to PS 2020 and the display driver/GPU error is not longer showing. However, it is still as slow. And the issue is actually with all of the programs, AI & ID too, I just happened to be doing a lot of PS work at the time of posting this orginally. Please can anyone throw some light on this? My whole mac goes slow when any one of these programs are open and is fine when they are closed, in the Activity Monitor I can see each program using between 1-3GB of ram when its open - is this excessive? I have upcoming deadlines and I am finding it impossible to work on Adobe CC ...

Hi, Graphic programs tend to use lots of RAM, I'd say it is expected. Also if you are doing production work,I'm afraid that you will need to update your hardware to a more modern configuration...

Because this system falls below the system requirements - unfortunately, you will probably need to get a new mac to use current and future versions of Photoshop.

You can of course, continue to use Photoshop 2020 on your current system which doesn't have higher system requirement for modern GPU support.

Thank you, how do I revert to a 2020 version?

Hi,

We're sorry about trouble with Photoshop 22.5.1 on your Mac. The latest version of Photoshop needs 2GB of VRAM or more for the graphics card to be compatible. Please check: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/system-requirements.html

For the performance issues with Photoshop, please try optimizing the Preferences of Photoshop using the steps suggested here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/optimize-photoshop-cc-performance.html

Let us know if it helps!

Regards,

Nikunj
