Photoshop 23.1 (2022) vs Photoshop 22.5.4 (2021) -- Both Apple Silicon

Hi,

I just purchased a 16 inch M1 Max MacBookPro (64 RAM, 2TB SDD) and I'm doing some tests in Photoshop.

1- Anything I do in PSD 23.1 (2022) will make the spinning cursor appear, even simply moving the canvas. When I do the same in Photoshop 22.5.4 (2021), everything works normally -- see screen_recording_01.

2- I tried to resize a poster I created to see how fast the M1 is and strange things started to happen: a- the background layer got destroyed (big pixels) and b- the document is unworkable, the spinning cursor appears all the time and everything is super slow -- see screen_recording_02. The same thing happens in Photoshop 22.5.4 (2021). Everything works fine on my iMac 2019 with PSD 23.0.2. (BTW, the M1 Max is a lot slower than my i9 iMac 2019 -- pretty disappointing).

What is going on guys? It seems like Photoshop for M1 is super buggy and super slow compared to the Intel version. Can you help?

Best,

Tom

What does your Preferences dialog look like here?

If you restore your preferences using this manual method does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.
