Photoshop 23.3.2 frequently crashes when double-click to open jpg file(s) in Windows 11, File Explorer.

When Photoshop crashes, this is the first thing to do, try resetting your Photoshop preferences. Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) immediately after launching Photoshop. You will be prompted to delete the current settings. You can also reset preferences upon a quit if Photoshop is running by going into General Preferences>General>Reset on Quit.

Thank you for the tip, I tried this first and it had no effect.

However, you should mention to back up all your settings prior to the reset.

Even with the backup, I spent several hours adding several custom actions, brushes, shapes, etc.

Open Photoshop or Bridge, and find "Camera Raw Preferences". Uncheck "Use GPU". Does it open without crashing then?

You can also set File Handling to "disable jpeg support". Then jpegs will open directly into Photoshop without first going through ACR.

Neither will fix the underlying problem, which is either a buggy driver or an incompatible GPU, but it will be a workaround for now, until you can fix the problem. ACR will still work without the GPU enabled.

Thanks you for the tip.

I am trying this now and it certainly made the opening of the files much faster.

I will have to use it a while longer to see if it works for preventing the crashing of Photoshop.

After using for a few days it seems that "Camera Raw Preferences". Uncheck "Use GPU" did not stop the craching. However, setting File Handling to "disable jpeg support" may have successfully worked around the crashing problem. Thank you for the tips! Hopefully Adobe will fix this problem soon.
