Question

Photoshop 24.4.1 crashes when opening from Lightroom 12.3

When using the "Edit in Photoshop" option in Lightroom (versions in subject line), Photoshop crashes.

Opening the original raw file directly in Photoshop works but this does not bring the Lightroom edits through.

Rolling back Photoshop one version makes things work okay again.

Any thoughts on if this is a Photoshop issue, Lightroom issue, or computer issue - and is there any way to get the latest versions of LR and PS to work together like they used to?

When Photoshop crashes, this is the first thing to do, try resetting your Photoshop preferences. Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (macOS) immediately after launching Photoshop. You will be prompted to delete the current settings. You can also reset preferences upon a quit if Photoshop is running by going into General Preferences>General>Reset on Quit.

If that doesn't fix the issue:
Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Multithreaded Compositing - and restart Photoshop.
Still crashing?
Go to Preferences > Performance... click Advanced Settings... and uncheck "GPU Compositing" - then restart Photoshop. Still crashing?

Whilst not now crashing per se, the issue of failing to open the image from Lightroom itself remains.

In Lightroom: Edit in > Edit in Adobe Photoshop 2023, opens Photoshop. Photoshop starts normally and shows the normal menus. However, the area where the image is usually shown is rapidly blinking black and white.

I can now close the image and exit Photoshop normally, unlike previously when I had to use Task Manager to close the program.

Unlike before the problem now occurs when opening any image directly in Photoshop, not just from Lightroom.

As previously, reverting to Photoshop 24.1.0 works just fine.

@Rick298776926eks go to Edit > Preferences > Technology Previews and enable this option, then restart Photoshop
