Photoshop 3d

I can't seem to create a ground plane shadow on my subject in 3D, the shadow is cast on the image itself and not the layer below which is the background, can a body help or am I just being silly and there is an easy solution?

Click on Environment then go to the properties panel and check the ground plane shadow color and opacity
