Photoshop action required – batch processing.

I do not use lightroom and I won’t, I need an action that works in the latest photoshop CC, and Adobe Bridge.

I believe a script will be required, however I’m no expert.

I need a way, action, script, whatever that will do the job, and it’s a big job.

I have around 3500 folders of band photos, all RAW or DNG files. The files have been star rated in bridge, one star (best images), two star (good images), and NO star, images NOT to be processed.

I need a way, action, script, whatever to batch process these 3000 folders, converting  - processing all 1 and 2 star images preparing them for web use.

I also need the original folder structure replicated.

I also need some jpg files that have already been edited in these folders, to be moved to the replicated folders where the new jpg files are.

Can this be done?

If I understand the request, I believe that this can mostly be accomplished with existing tools, however a custom script would of course be smoother.

1) Using Adobe Bridge, setup the subfolder view option and the filter panel option for the ratings as in the image below and browse to the top level folder:

(The find command can also search for 1 & 2 star ratings similar to the filter panel)

2) Then select all filtered images that require processing

3) Then using Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor Pro, you can batch save out web versions, retaining folder structure and creating sub folders and running an action. The IPP script is a 3rd party installation:

I am working through the process with Marek, however his first solution has not worked: which is more than likely a user error on my part.

I will keep working with Marek to see if we can get his system to work, if not I will revert to your advice.

    I don't use RAW and DNG files, but if I remember well they're beeing opened in Camera Raw first before converted to .jpg? Probably there is a way of direct opening them as .jpg files with some (default) settings to skip user interference panel?

    Do you have some settings for Save for Web you'd like to use and what is a path to folder where subfolders are contained?

    What you mean by some .jpg's that have been edited - are you talking of files not saved for web, but just modified files they had to be somehow recognised outside of mentioned process, or else during as they are between other raw and dng files?

    Most files are raw or dng, tens of thousands... ! Yep, open in raw, before photoshop or any action. All have been edited in Camera Raw, cropped etc, these setting need to be used in the batch process. 

    Do you have some specified settings for Save for Web you'd like to use?

    Whatever the best looking size is for web use. 600 x 800 pixels, what ever the current web protocol is. 

    What is your system path to top folder, I mean that all subfolders are contained?

    Its all photos - bands.

    The action - script  needs to process folders and sub folders.

    All images are  in an external drive, its  HP NAS, networked via either net.

    I've shot about 3500 bands on fild and digital. In digital, some bands have been shot 10 or more times, plus the film scans from pre 2007. In these band folders there are sometimes jpg files already prepared for web. I'd like to use these if possible. I had a huge site up for years www.projectphotography.com however it got too old and clunky so I took it down.

    I have no problems paying to get a solution to my requirements. Its a vast amount of work I need to get started on.

    Hi Marek,

    In the:

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2018\Presets\Scripts

    folder I can see 23 .jsx files.

    However, when I try to open the script you made (renamed resize script from marek.jsx)

    I can not see any scripts, only two folders:

    Event Scripts Only &

    Stack Scripts Only

    Both of these folders contain scripts (jsx files). I can see them in windows explorer, but I can not see anything in photoshop.

    I put the resize script from marek.jsx script in both of these folders, but I can not see it when I try and activate it from photoshop.

    I’ve hit a dead end mate.
