Photoshop brush stroke render error

Hi, 

I have an image layer and and trying to draw using my pen tablet on another layer above it. The strokes do not render and show the transperancy grid where the stroke should be. If the image layer is switched off or I zoom in and out of it it start showing, but goes off again after drawing next stroke.
